Learning-Support Assistants /AESH : An Updated Handout for Families

Finding appropriate support for a child with additional needs or learning difficulties within the education system can be quite challenging. Research shows providing targeted support to children with additional learning needs can significantly improve their classroom experience and educational achievements. Under French law, children with disabilities (ages 3-16) must receive equal treatment and have the same opportunities for enrollment in mainstream education, promoting inclusion.

A way to support a child within mainstream education, both in public, semi-private, and private schools, is to employ a learning-support assistant, or AESH in french.

In this document, created jointly by SPRINT and EKIPP, we explain what AESH are, how to find them, what their roles are depending on the different types of schools, and other information that parents should know.
